Earth Hour Activity Ideas For 2023
Give an Hour for Earth by spending 60 minutes doing something – anything – positive for our planet.
Consider these Earth Hour Activity ideas!
What is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour is a global annual environmental action to demonstrate the commitment to protecting the planet. The first Earth Hour occurred in 2007 in Sydney, Australia where 2.2 million people participated by turning off the lights in unity for the planet!
When Is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour occurs annually and this year it is on March 25th from 8:30 PM – 9:30 PM – anywhere in the world.
1. Go Geocaching!
Since Earth Hour falls on a weekend, you can extend your eco-celebration into the daytime with an adventure in nature.
Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunt where you use GPS coordinates to find hidden containers called ‘caches’. This is a global activity with millions of caches hidden in over 190 different countries.
Caches typically have a logbook within them so you can log your green act in the ledger for all to see.
Sometimes there are small treasures within where you can take something and leave something behind for the next treasure hunter.
2. Share a Plant-Based Meal
Studies have shown that switching to a plant-based diet can have the biggest impact at the personal level.
Double your impact by sharing a plant-based meal together!
If you don’t feel comfortable cooking from scratch, find pre-made goods, try a meal kit service or order from a local restaurant.
Enjoy your plant-based meal by candlelight! Avoid paraffin wax and choose a plant-based candle instead.
3. Take It Outside
Grab a headtorch and go on a moonlit walk. Use AllTrails to find local pathways you can take together to discover your own neck of the woods. Connect with your local Field Naturalist Society or conservation area to see if they have upcoming events.
