5 Success Stories from Members of our Sustainability Alliance

Did you know that Random Acts of Green has a membership program for both businesses and individuals?

We want to connect the dots between people and organizations and create a unified hub of likeminded folk who are set on collective climate action.

Our programs are designed to help educate individuals and businesses about the ways they can help our planet, inspire engagement within their respective communities and nullify the feeling of helplessness and eco-isolation. We’re all in this, together!

Today, we’re very proud to be celebrating 5 Happy Success Stories from some of our green-act business members, just in time for Earth Month.

#1: The Beer Store

🎉 In 2007, The Beer Store entered into a landmark five-year contract with the Ontario government to take back and refund deposits on all wine, spirit and cooler containers sold in Ontario through the Ontario Deposit Return Program. This partnership continues today.

This March, The Beer Store celebrated the five billionth container return under the Ontario Deposit Return Program (ODRP) in partnership with the LCBO.

This shared commitment to environmental responsibility has seen well over 50,000 tonnes of glass diverted annually from the province’s landfills and made into new products while reducing contamination and costs from Blue Box collection.

#2: Bullfrog Power

🎉 Bullfrog Power launch their powerful new documentary, The Afterlife of Waste.

In the midst of a global pandemic that has increased the use of disposable goods, conversations about how individuals, industry, and governments can each contribute towards our collective goal of reducing reducing waste that ends up in landfill and the environment is now more important than ever.

‘The Afterlife of Waste’ is a documentary short produced by BASF Canada and Bullfrog Power that explores the opportunities and challenges of implementing a circular economy in Canada.

Fellow Random Acts of Green members, Club Coffee also feature.

#3: HOPE Pet Food

🎉 Congratulations to HOPE Pet Food for winning the People’s Choice Choice Dongjun-Wang Family True Blue Prize this year at the U of T Entrepreneurship Startup Prize pitch competition.

HOPE were involved with six of U of T’s accelerators during the process and secured 3k worth of funding with their win.

HOPE‘s insect-based, limited ingredient pet food and treats are made in Canada in small batches. They’re naturally preserved with the kindest, most sustainable ingredients.

We’re excited to see where this deserved win takes them next!

Stephanie Ward

Stephanie started her journey towards a sustainable lifestyle young: at the age of 12, she started a ‘compost bin’ in a margarine container — and left it for her mum to find under the sink many weeks later … Needless to say, her eco-skills have improved since then! A vegan of 10+ years, a staunch animal welfare advocate, and an avid recycler, you’re most likely to find her on a hike, or in the garden.

#4: Hub Labels

While this isn’t a ‘hot off the presses!’ new success story, we couldn’t not share this new video from our Maryland-based partners in sustainability, Hub Labels.

Hub‘s ongoing commitment to sustainability is commendable and one which their whole team has got behind.

#5: The Green Jar

Toronto-based, eco-friendly, package- free refillery, The Green Jar hosted a clothing collection in partnership with Clotho Inc.

“Bin after bin filled today with unwanted clothing and textiles that are going to be repurposed, upcycled, recycled and reused.”

Their 3 day event collected almost 3,000lbs of textiles  (2,756lbs to be precise!).

Thank you to Tannis and Mara at The Green Jar for providing the space for their community to recycle textiles with the environment in mind.
