12 Easy ways Start go green Initiatives in the office
Incorporating environmentally friendly practices into the office can be easy and fun. It also has social and economic benefits.
Here are 12 easy ways to implement go green initiatives in the office!
#1. Eliminate single-use items when possible.
Single-use plastic is extremely wasteful, and in a lot of cases unnecessary. Instead of providing single-use water bottles or coffee cups, why not encourage everyone to bring their own? Or you could provide dishware for everyone to use.
#2. Go green .... literally!
Decorate the office with plants. Not only does this brighten up the office, but plants absorb CO2, giving your office its own eco-friendly air filtration system.
#3. Encourage eco-friendly commuting.
Telecommuting, carpooling, public transit and biking to work are all great ways to reduce your carbon footprint.
If possible, install bike racks outside like RAOG business members, The Main Ingredient.
#4. Offer responsibly sourced coffee.
Do you offer complimentary coffee to your employees? Coffee harvesting can lead to deforestation, water pollution and waste. When purchasing coffee, check to see if it has been fair-trade certified and do a bit of research on the environmental policies of the coffee brand.
#5. Optimize natural light.
This saves having to turn on all the lights, and also reduces your energy bill!
#6. Use energy-efficient lighting.
This is another tip that saves money and the environment! Using motion sensored lighting or LED bulbs greatly cuts down on your energy usage.
[A shout-out to our business members Hub Labels. Sixty-five percent of the lighting in their 110,000 square-foot facility in Hagerstown has been switched to LEDs.].
#7. Use an energy-efficient thermostat.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget to adjust your thermostat, but with an energy-efficient one, it does it for you.
#8. Implement water conservation tools in the bathrooms.
Installing a Toilet Tank or motion sensored taps are great ways to conserve water.
#9. Use eco-friendly cleaners.
Conventional cleaning products can be harmful to the environment and your health. Switching them out for eco-friendly products couldn’t be easier.
#10. Post recycling and garbage guidelines near bins.
Different municipalities have different rules as to what can be recycled. By posting guidelines near the bins, people are more likely to use the bins properly.
#11. Turn off electronics and unplug them.
Did you know that the majority of electronic power in the office is consumed by electronics that are turned off? This is called phantom power, and is easily reduced by unplugging electronics when not in use.
#12. Buy second hand.
This is not possible for all office products, but for items such as furniture this can be a great way to save product wastage and save money.
We hope this quick 12-point guide provided you with some ideas for consideration. Stay tuned! We have more tips on the way.
