Frequently Asked Questions about the Random Acts of Green Mobile App

1. What is a Green Point?

A Green Point is a unit of measure that has been calculated by the Random Acts of Green Team based on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that is reduced by each action. Greenhouse gas emissions lead to harmful heating effects on our planet. Green Points are also calculated based on other benefits to our environment, such as saving water and reduction in waste going to landfills.

2. Why do I get more Green Points for some acts over others?

Some Green Acts reduce more harmful carbon from entering into the atmosphere when compared to others. The Green Points earned for each Green Act has been quantified based on the amount of CO2 reduced, as well as other environmental benefits, from participating in each one.

3. How do you know I am actually doing a Green Act?

Ye-of-little faith!

You would NEVER try to cheat our planet……..would you?

And even if you try (shame on you!!) … Random Acts of Green has implemented a strong verification process into our App, including a Watch Dog function that tracks  the Green Acts Logged and may prompt you to take a picture. Green Acts are also linked to your location.

4. Who is the team behind the Random Acts of Green App?

The Random Acts of Green App is made up of several parties. The app was the idea of Jessica Correa (Founder & CEO) and Gordon Halsey (Lead Consultant), who both have their Masters Degrees in Sustainability Studies from Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. Much academic research was used to construct this behaviour change app.  The team hired International Council for Local Environmental Initiative (ICLEI), an expert organization in sustainable development, to help quantify each Green Act and work with their trusty app developers, Olio Digital Labs. Thank you to Hatch Creative for producing our graphics and many others along the way who have contributed to making this Random Acts of Green App possible. We know it will be a useful tool for the public.
